GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

Sir,

2.

With reference to previous correspondence

terminating with your despatch No. 341 of 11th

October, 1938, regarding the grant to officers of

extensions of leave to suit steamship arrangements,

and on the ground of urgent private affairs, I have

the honour to forward for your consideration the

accompanying copy of a draft General Order, which

has been drawn up on the basis of your suggestions.

As regards extensions to suit steamship

arrangements, it is felt that, in view of the great

variety of the places in which long leave may be

spent and of the routes by which officers stationed

in this Colony may proceed to and from leave, the

simplest method is to make a general rule requiring

all officers to report again for duty at latest by

the expiration of their leave plus the standard

period of voyage, and to depart from this rule only

in the most extraordinary circumstances or in the

specific case mentioned of travel by the normal

fortnightly sailings from England. I trust the

General Order as now drafted will meet with your

approval.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

MALCOLM MACDONALD, M.P.,

&C., &c.
